My 3 Favourite Ways to Move anywhere, Anytime.
Exercise is such an important aspect of overall health.
In fact, after listening to Dr. Peter Attia’s interview with Lauryn and Michael Bosstick of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast I would say it might be the most important aspect of health, when speaking about longevity.
Strengthening the body is so important and a lot of times people ask me where they should start. I think, no matter what, the best place to start is by doing something that a) feels good, and b) that you enjoy. Once that part is taken care of and you have started, then it’s much easier to fine-tune and start to add in that which you are missing.
That being said though, it really is difficult to know sometimes where to start which is why I am sharing a brief description and review on my favourite online programs and programmers who each have a different skill set and method to help you discover a variance in workouts and training styles along with the variety you could have in your weekly workout routine to help strengthen your body through and through.
What’s an advantage to these methodologies?
Well every single one of them you can take with you when you travel, aren’t with access to a studio or simply want to offset going to studio with something you can efficiently and easily have access to from home anytime, anywhere you need.
Pilates
Whether it’s on the Reformer or Mat, I love Pilates. No big surprise there, especially if you follow me. As a Pilates instructor, I love the methodology and focus on spine health, posture and core strength. The fact that it can help elongate and increase flexibility, mobility and stability is a total seller. I love that if you are working on a machine, you can customize your practice with the resistance you use. I love that if you are working on the mat you can do it from literally anywhere and that it can become a practice and technique that you grow, develop and expand on. Pilates is non-impact and, when done correctly, can be a huge strengthener simply from a coordination and control stance. When you have contrology mentally over your body physically, that is the ultimate flex, pun intended.

Threeform
This is a method of training that has truly changed my body and helped me develop a better understanding of what I need to work on, personally.
I have followed Stephen Pasterino since he founded P.Volve and when he started Threeform, his new company and precision-based methodology, I was ready to embark on a program of self-development both muscularly and mentally in learning more about my body. This is not a workout for those looking to be distracted, nor those looking for entertainment, but rather is a method of movement that works you from within. The primary focus is training the body in the 3 planes of movement, the frontal, sagittal and transverse plane. The results are a stronger core, better glute activation, long and lengthened muscles and an overall discovery in how you can connect your core and change your abs in standing strength/stretch exercises. Threeform is now a must-do in my schedule regardless of whether or not I’m travelling. The method trains functional movement and, to my mind, is the perfect combination to anyone’s week no matter what kind of activity you are already doing.
YOGA
I have long loved yoga for how simple and yet how effective it is. Stretching is a huge focus of mine, and with so much of life being in flexion (hello sitting driving, at a desk, computer etc.) it is becoming increasingly more important to take the necessary time to stretch. That being said, it’s important to strengthen the stretch which is where yoga comes in. Not only does the right yoga practice stretch you, but the right one also strengthens you. And regardless, in any yoga practice you will be working your stretch which is what is key. For a home practice I love following Travis Eliot, who has an amazing YouTube channel with classes that are as beautiful to follow as they are enjoyable and rewarding. You feel like you are in the class and the practice is one that feels amazing.
