Who’s Your Uncle?
Uncle Studios

I LOVE supporting small-based businesses. Especially if they are in Canada and even more so if they happen to be created by young women who have a vision (and missions) for what they are bringing to the market.
Meet Uncle Studios, a Canadian clothing company founded in late 2017 by Allegra Shaw and Shirin Soltani. Originating from the pursuit of wanting to create the perfect t-shirt, Uncle has since grown to offer incredible capsule-collection pieces that work seamlessly in wardrobes yesterday, today and tomorrow. With a feel-good approach to fashion, and focusing on uniform-style seasonal basics, Uncle has simplified dressing while keeping an undertone of effortless, understated sophistication.
Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy would have loved Uncle as well.
The clothes from Uncle are truly beautiful and are so classic that it would be hard not to find something in their collection to work for anyone. There are the solid basics, some which could even be considered unisex, the necessary wardrobe builders. And then there are, what I would describe as, seasonal delights - pieces that are special enough to stand out without forcing the wearer to abandon comfort. Fabrics, colour palettes and cuts are all on point and are all somehow perfect together from season to season. Uncle creates with the wearer in mind and closely follows the feedback of it’s followers which is why they have such a strong understanding of what the market wants. They know their customer and their customer knows them.
It’s a nice relationship.
I was fortunate enough to be in Toronto at the exact time Uncle was holding it’s summer pop-up. Named La Maison de la Piscine, it’s light and airy south of France mixed with English country-side tea party vibe was absolute perfection. As an e-commerce business, Uncle releases it’s collections online which is why seeing it in person was so special. Getting to touch the fabrics, see the cuts while also meeting Shirin and Allegra in person offered the most lovely personalized and curated experience that helped me walk away feeling absolutely amazing about wearing their clothes, supporting their brand and getting to be a part of the US community.
