In a city like Montréal, where there are a ton of great restaurants, I still get super jazzed when one sticks out and really impresses me. There are so many great places to eat, but finding one that hits all the right notes with ambience, music, lighting, service, hospitality, food, wine, decor, style and pace is hard because it’s much harder than most people realize to find a space that truly encompasses all the elements that work in creating a symbiosis of excellence. Whilst there are those who are saying, “Now wait just a minute,” but if you sit back a think about it the list of places that are cultivating that perfect vibe…well, the list isn’t exactly long now is it? Many places miss the lighting, the music is too loud or noisy and the experience as a whole (for what it costs today to eat out) isn’t giving full satisfaction. Lawrence, however, gets all of it right.
The ambience is perfect. Small, quaint and intimate. Not too many tables not too little, Goldilocks would approve. The wine selection is divine and enticing and the service team know exactly what works with their menu. I loved being guided by our server and felt totally comfortable that their suggestions would enhance the experience ten-fold. And let me tell you, they totally did. The food was impeccable and the execution of each dish was 10/10.
I love the fact that we sat at the bar, that the kitchen is so close, that the restaurant is so small, that the server’s speak in quiet voices, that the music was soft, that the lighting was minimal and that the whole experience was romantic, charming and understated elegance to a T.
I look forward to going back to Lawrence and being wowed again.
