Walking into Leméac is like walking into Paris.
The hustle and bustle of this bistro is undeniable as is it’s popularity amongst local Montrealer’s who flock to the delicious french fare that is as classic as it is consistently scrumptious. In it’s 21 years since opening, Leméac has proven itself to be one of the best restaurants in Montreal and it’s quite obvious why.

Waiters buzz around in bistro-service attire, long black aprons and crisp white shirts as patrons slip into a cozy booths, centre table or perch themselves at the bar. I love the bar, and would suggest to anyone preferring a more comfortable seat to take one at the bar. The leather stool high-top chairs are plush and offer up a fun view of all the action. Watch food come out, patrons be seated and drinks get made while eating delicious baguette with rich french butter while sipping on a gin martini, straight up - 2 olives please & merci.

I have always loved the vibe at Leméac because it feels so french without feeling Quebecois. For those who are from Montreal, you know what I mean. This is what makes you feel as though you have walked into a Parisian bistro, the mix of french and english speakers is even and makes you forget, even if for a moment, that Quebec has ever-growing strict language laws and, ironically, France doesn’t.

First you must order fries. It doesn’t matter what else you order, but you must order the fries. Never have I had french fries served where they are so hot you have to take a moment before enjoying them. Love that.
The mushroom ravioli is beyond fantastic, and has a delectable french sauce that has been so reduced that it is almost a light gravy. Absolutely splendid. The salmon tartare with truffle oil is divine and has the perfect amount of truffle that doesn’t overwhelm the lightness of the salmon. A butternut squash soup au gratin gives the ultimate fall-vibe while nodding to a classic french onion with its backed cheese and bread topping. Comfort food to the max. Enjoy a light green salad, just to feel balanced, and finish dinner with the french toast and you are set.

Leméac isn’t just a restaurant, it’s an institution in Montreal and it’s clear why it’s stood the test of time.
